Description
The purpose of this study is to assess our knowledge regarding the wealth belonging to the senators of Hispanic roots from the Augustan Age to the middle of the 3rd century AD. Besides the analysis of the location of their real-estate, we have more specifically emphasized our study on the role of the epigraphy of the Dressel 20 amphorae as well as the one of the amphorae used for the curing of fish regarding the involvement of the senatorial families in the particularly dynamic sectors of the regional economy such as the olive growing and the fish processing industry. Our study highlights the fact that many families of the Betic zone as well as a few ones originating from Lusitania had chosen to invest in the olive growing industry. Others have grown rich through the production of amphorae and the marketing of fish products. Our research also reveals that as from the second third of the 2nd century AD a phenomenon of vertical integration of businesses appears as being managed by very powerful families.
