Description
The concept of mediation is used increasingly frequently in the communication sciences and calls for epistemological clarification. A. Hennion' s conception of «mixed objects» helps to clarify crossed networks of mediation between artists, different actors in the market, and the works themselves. But ambiguity remains with respect to the notion of a «hidden meaning». The present article attempts to show that social groups, institutions or technical objects mediate, through their specific functions, the functions of other forms of social relations. If we are to analyse the effect of a technique, a tool or an object, it is not enough to state the condition of its insertion in a given network of media or mediators. We also need to analyse the internalization and reproduction of all the social logics of a configuration, through the specific logic of each object. The interdependence of social relations is also the interpénétration of their logics.
