Description
The Gallo-roman site of Châteauneuf (Savoie) is organized around four principal elements : a bath house, a residential area, a theatre and a sanctuary which forms the subject of this paper.
The first phase of the sanctuary, only area fully excavated, corresponds to a fanum with two cellae, built at the beginning of the first century A.D. and destroyed in the flavian period. Its main interest lies upon the rich epigraphic material recovered : a dedicatory inscription in its original place, graffiti on wall paintings and tiles which bring a major contribution to the study of the Latin cursive script.
These inscriptions show the workship of a native god named Limetus, soon taken over by the cult of Mercury and Maia, connected to the cult of Roma and Augustus.
