The below parameters will effect disk performance, therefore, any deviation from
Sonnet's exact setup may result in discrepancies in performance.
Sonnet's Test Setup:
Hardware:
1. Disk drives - Western Digital Raptor WD740 10,000 RPM 74 GB or Seagate
Barracuda 7200.8 7,200 RPM 400 GB
2. Cables - Sonnet Tempo eSATA Data Cables
3. Computer - Power Mac G5 dual 2.0 GHz (June 2003 introduction) or Power Mac
G4 dual 1.0 GHz (Mirrored Drive Door)
4. RAM - 512 MB
Software:
1. Benchmark program - disktester (http://www.diglloyd.com/diglloyd/software/index.html)
exact command "./disktester run-sequential-suite RAID"
exact command "./disktester run-sequential-suite -s 64 -t 2048 RAID"
exact command "./disktester run-area-test -T 131072 -t 2048 RAID"
notes: a) name of volume to be tested was "RAID"
b) "-t 2048" is for the one drive benchmark run
change "-t 2048" to "-t 4096" for a two drive striped array
change "-t 2048" to "-t 8192" for a four drive striped array
change "-t 2048" to "-t 16384" for a eight drive striped array
2. Using or bypassing Mac OS X file system cache - disktester default is to bypass
the Mac OS X file system cache to most accurately test actual disk performance
3. Empty, erased file system - always done before each benchmark run
4. Mac OS X version - 10.4
