It is induced by turbulence on scalesthat are comparable to the gyroradius of the charged plasma particles, and leads to a degrada-tion of con nement, which makes it very dif cult to reach the conditions that are necessary fora self-sustained fusion reaction in the plasma. An important goal of fusion research is there-fore to identify and understand the processes that determine the level of anomalous transport, allowing for a prediction or even reduction of this nonlinear effect. In the present thesis, a numerical approach to plasma microturbulence is pursued. Thegyrokinetic equations, which describe magnetized plasmas at fusion relevant conditions, arepresented in a form that is suitable for a numerical treatment.
