In par-ticular, there is an ongoing trend towards using mobile devices such as cellphones, laptops or PDAs. Integrated circuits for these kind of applicationsare mainly produced in CMOS technology (complementary metal-oxide semi-conductor). CMOS circuits use almost no power when they are not active andthus, combiningnegativelyandpositivelychargedtransistors, theydrawpoweronly when switching polarity. Furthermore, advanced CMOS technology is ex-pected to dominate in the future since it allows to manufacture transistors inthe nanoscale regime.Circuit simulation is one of the key technologies enabling a further increasein performance and memory density.
