One possible technical realization of these high data rates includes the reduc-tion of the physical distance between transmitter and receiver by the introduction ofrelaystations. Thisthesisinvestigatesanewnetworkarchitecture,whereagivencel-lularnetworkisenhancedbyfixedrelaystations. Thethesisprovidesaframeworktocombinetheclusteringprocessofthenewnetworkintocellsandthebalancingofloadamong different cells. It examines routing strategies to enable the handover processbetweenstationsofthesamecellwithrespecttotheirresourceefficiencyandfeasibil-ity. Thethesisfinallyanalyzes,whethertheapplicationofnetworkcodingincellularmulti-hop networks is reasonable.
