Prof. Dr. Joern Piel Summary Summary N-acyl amino acids were first isolated and identified from insect gut as elicitors of the host plant’s defence reactions (Alborn et al. 1997). Up to date, no experimental proof for a role of these compounds for the physiology of insects has been found. Due to their amphiphilic nature, a reasonable function as bioemulsifiers has been postulated (Spiteller 2002).
