The AUDIT procedure was developed by the World HealthOrganization to identify persons whose alcohol consumption has become hazardous orharmful to their health. Because alcohol use poses health risks and causes a variety ofhealth problems, systematic screening by health care workers is likely to contribute topreventive medicine.
