For More Information, Contact Mark Gedris 1.202.833.6809 – mark.gedris@utc.org UTC and Telcordia Technologies Team to Benchmark Utility Communications Systems Capabilities, Costs Structures and Capital Spending Plans Landmark Study is First To Benchmark Internal Telecommunications for North American Utilities WASHINGTON, DC, September 25, 2002 – The United Telecom Council (UTC), an industry association for utility and energy companies, and Telcordia Technologies, Inc., a global provider of operations support systems (OSS), network software and consulting and engineering services, today announced the launch of a new research project to benchmark the telecommunications needs of the electric and gas utilities industry. Utilities are accelerating deployment of large telecom networks for voice and data using a variety of technologies and architectures, and are seeking benchmarking data to identify standards, which can be used to measure capital and operating expenditures for deployment and operation of telecommunications systems. “The objective of this very important study is to identify existing capabilities, internal cost structures and capital spending plans for utilities’ enterprise communications systems,” said Beth Griffiths, UTC Director of Research. “The UTC Utility Telecom Benchmarking Report will be the first broad-reaching benchmarking study on internal telecommunications for the North American utilities industry.” ...
