This letter expresses the views of KPMG International and its member firms. We apologise for the delay in responding and hope that this will not hinder the Board’s consideration of our comments. We believe that the IASB should defer consideration of this project until it has completed the other projects that are critical elements of the 2005 “stable platform”. Our recommendation reflects our view that: • we question whether the degree of convergence with US GAAP that is achieved warrants diversion of the Board’s resources at this time; • the changes proposed are unlikely to result in many changes in measurement; and • there have not been significant practice issues in this area to date.
