No comments were received in the economic category in April. Each comment submitted is categorized by the content of the message. Comments and questions received at outreach events are summarized separately. Comment categories We have six comment categories: transportation, design/construction, economic, transit, environmental/public safety and structures/locations. No comments were received in the economic category in April. Each comment submitted is categorized by the content of the message. Please note that some comments fit into more than one category, while others do not fit into any of the categories. The bullet points below were extracted from the April comments. Transportation: This category includes comments related to traffic, connections/circulation, pedestrians and bicycles. In April, there were three comments in this category. Below is a sampling. •The preferred viaduct replacement must be considered as part of the larger transportation system with the Seattle area.

Design/Construction: This category includes comments related to construction, urban design, the seawall and engineering. In April, there were 33 comments in this category. Below is a sampling. •Why are they only putting two lanes north and south in the bored tunnel? •Do you anticipate any upcoming obstacles or roadblocks for the tunnel? •I suggest we lease the ground the viaduct is on with 99year leases. •A side tunnel, with only two lanes, could be built to give the northwest area of the city access to the deep bored tunnel. •I own a café very close to the WOSCA site [where the program is demolishing two buildings] and I am concerned about impacts to my business. •When will construction on this project start? Which contractors won the bid? Transit: This category includes comments related to transit, such as light rail and buses. In April, there was one comment in this category. •I believe that King County has the will and means to provide the transit service necessary to make the tunnel successful. Environmental/Public Safety: This category includes comments related to noise issues, public safety, earthquakes and visual quality. In April, there were 11 comments in this category.Below is a sampling. •Will the tunnel be safe in an earthquake? •The program’s Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) needs to study a wide range of alternatives, including all the alternatives studied by the Viaduct Stakeholder Advisory Committee, and specifically the two alternatives recommended by that process (neither of which include a tunnel). •What will your EIS process look like? •This plan should reduce dependency on automobiles for the transportation of people and goods. •Fully incorporate bicycle facilities into the central waterfront redevelopment and tunnel portal areas. Structures/Location: This category includes comments related to historic structures and districts, portals, stadiums and neighborhoods. In April, there were two comments in this category. Below is a sampling. •What will happen to the “tailgater’s heaven” parking lot near the stadiums during viaduct construction? Outreach events Outreach events provide another way to gather feedback about the program. The feedback from these events is summarized separately, and summaries are available upon request.
