Function of the Lady-Datejust what a difference a date makes

In the earliest models of the Datejust, the date would begin to change hours before its midnight rendezvous. In 1955, the date-change mechanism was adapted to operate instantaneously and the date aperture was enhanced with a Cyclops lens that magniﬁes the date by two and half times for easy reading.

In 1945, at the dawn of a new era of prosperity, Rolex launched the ﬁrst Datejust. The inaugural model with its waterproofness, streamlined elegance and date aperture on the face of the watch, was a timepiece ahead of its time. The Lady-Datejust, which appeared in the late 1950s, was the ﬁrst ladies’ version of this date chronometer, carrying its heritage of timeless elegance and functionality in a more exquisite size.

The Gold Crystals dials highlight the natural crystalline structure of gold in a captivating play of reﬂections and colours. The dials are obtained from a particular surface treatment of an 18 ct gold alloy developed by Rolex and produced in its own foundry. Each Gold Crystals dial is magically different from another, a natural work of art.

Rolex uses only the ﬁnest rubies, sapphires and emeralds to adorn its watches, and employs exceptionally demanding selection criteria. Each stone is meticulously examined by the in-house gemmologists for quality and authenticity. By operating its own exclusive foundry, Rolex has the unrivalled ability to cast the highest quality 18 ct gold alloys. According to the proportion of silver, copper, platinum or palladium added, different types of 18 ct gold are obtained: yellow, pink or white. They are made with only the purest metals and meticulously inspected in an in-house laboratory with state-of-the-art equipment, before the gold is formed and shaped with same painstaking attention to quality. Features the art and craft of rolex dials

Dial creation is nothing less than a truemetier d’art. Very few watchmaking companies besides Rolex master all the aspects of dial creation in-house. Mother-of-pearl, gold plate, meteorite and diamonds are just some of the precious materials used to ensure the beauty and individual character of each Rolex dial. Some are subtly embellished with sun or sand-blasted ﬁnishes, some lacquered, still others receive a decor in relief through machining, electroforming or guillochage. Applique hour markers, from gem-set to luminescent, from Arabic to Roman numerals – always in 18 ct gold – are afﬁxed by hand. The very last touch is the most signiﬁcant of all – the placement of the applique Rolex crown.
