Romulus HÂLDAN Baza Navală st21 Century naval forces The end of the Cold War has brought a review of the Naval Forces’ missions and, as a consequence, their restructuring while considering the challenges of the new security environment which are different from classic pattern and, tipically, they request a different approach. All naval powers worldwide, especially the bigest ones, have configured their own forces and capabilities rapidly, mostly by setting out modern ships endowment projects covering long periods of time even a half- century. These projects are extremely ambitious, almost fictional. The main features of the new ships will be high technology as well as the diversity of their roles. In this view, the accomplishment of these projects will put Naval Forces central in the participation in many diverse future conflicts. După încheierea războiului rece, la începutul anilor ’90, principalele mari puteri s-au trezit fără adversar şi, în această situaţie, necesitatea unor forţe armate masive nu îşi mai avea rostul. Implicit şi forţele navale se aflau în aceiaşi situaţie neexistând o orientare clară spre ce se îndreaptă acestea. Producerea unor acte teroriste de amploare a evidenţiat un nou adversar major – terorismul şi acest adversar trebuia abordat în cu totul altă manieră de cea clasică iar forţele de combatere a acestuia necesitau o altă configuraţie.
