It all began in a cave on Mount Hira outside of Mecca in the Arabian Peninsula in the month of Ramadan, the 17 day of the year 610AD. Muhammad ibn Abdallah (hereafter referred to as 1 th “Muhammad”; referred to by Muslims as “the Prophet Muhammad”), age 40, married to Khadija, a wealthy business woman fifteen years his senior, had made his way to the cave for a spiritual retreat.
