These projects are constructed of light timber framing due to the affordability of materials and labour, and compatibility with the climate of this region. In this regard, I have become interested in construction as a verb – a verb that describes a cultural process. This reflects an interest in primary construction rather than high craft as an end in itself and an enjoyment in building assembly. These projects employ a low-tech or “folk-tech” approach to construction. They are, for the most part, within the vernacular material culture of the place that they sit.
