PREVALENCIA DE PARASITOSIS INTESTINALES EN PACIENTES DEL ESTADO LARA, VENEZUELA, DURANTE LOS AÑOS 2008-2010 (PREVALENCE OF INTESTINAL PARASITES IN PATIENTS OF LARA STATE,VENEZUELA, DURING THE YEARS 2008-2010).

RESUMEN
En el presente trabajo se estudió la frecuencia de enteroparásitos en pacientes de tres comunidades del estado Lara, Venezuela. Una rural, Miracuy, municipio Andrés Eloy Blanco, otra suburbana, Agua Viva, en el municipio Palavecino y una tercera (como grupo control) constituida por muestras de pacientes procedentes de la ciudad de Barquisimeto (grupo urbano), municipio Iribarren, estado Lara. Posterior a la aplicación de las técnicas coprológicas a cada muestra de heces, se obtuvo un total de 503 muestras, de las cuales 35,8% correspondía al grupo urbano, 48,9% al suburbano y 15,3% al rural. El grupo encontrado con mayor proporción de parasitosis intestinales fue el rural (80,5%). Los parásitos más frecuentes fueron los protozoarios, siendo Blastocystis hominis el de mayor prevalencia en los tres grupos, seguido de Giardia lamblia y Endolimax nana. Entre los helmintos, Ascaris lumbricoides fue el metazoario más observado, seguido de Trichuris trichiura. Se considera que las altas tasas de prevalencia en estas parasitosis estás asociadas a la falta de información, así como a las condiciones en que vive la población marginal y rural, incluyendo la falta de aplicación de hábitos de higiene, educación sanitaria, adecuado almacenamiento de agua, deficientes sistemas de eliminación de excretas y basura, entre otros. ABSTRACT
The aim of this research was to study the frequency of intestinal parasites in patients from three communities belonging to the state of Lara, Venezuela. A rural community, Miracuy, Andrés Eloy Blanco municipality, a suburban community, Agua Viva, Palavecino municipality and a third community (control group) consisting of samples made of patients from Barquisimeto, a city in the Iribarren municipality of the state of Lara. After the application of the coprological techniques to each stool sample, a total of 503 samples was obtained. From those samples, 35,8% belonged to the urban group, 48,9% to the suburban group and 15,3% to the rural one. The group with the highest proportion of intestinal parasites was the rural one (80,5%). The most common parasites were the protozoa, being Blastocystis hominis the most prevalent in the three groups, followed by Giardia lamblia and Endolimax nana. Among helminths, Ascaris lumbricoides was the most common metazoan, followed by Trichuris trichiura. It is considered that the high prevalence rates in these parasitic diseases are associated with lack of information, as well as living conditions in marginal and rural population, including the lack of enforcement of hygiene, health education, adequate water storage, poor sewage systems and garbage disposal, among others.
