Abstract
Heat induction with ovulation in ewes consists of the application of the treatment in such a manner that the ewes can maintain oestrus cycle during the seasonal anestrus. The objective of this investigation was to evaluate the use of progestagen, fluorogestone acetate (FGA) and pregnant mare"s serum gonadotrophin (PMSG) to induce heat with ovulation in ewes which are in seasonal anestrus. The investigation was carried out in San Salvador Cuauhtenco, Milpa Alta, D.F. Mexico. From a flock of 54 creole sheep, twenty four ewes of two and half years old and with 40 kg of body weight were treated during the months of may and june (anestrus season). Vaginal sponge impregnated in FGA and 460 IU of PMSG i.m. were applied
heat was detected in 95.8 percent of ewes treated. These results prompted us that the method applied can adequately be used to optimize the induction and synchronization of heat in the flocks during the seasonal anestrus. However, the increase in multiple parturition may cause the predisposition of perinatal death in ewes.
