Graecum est: el uso del griego en textos electrónicos de carácter científico-técnico (Graecum est: the use of Greek in electronic technical or scientific texts)

Resumen
La presencia en el lenguaje médico y científico de un significativo número de términos y expresiones que contienen letras griegas plantea un problema para muchos autores, traductores, médicos y científicos. A pesar del uso ubicuo de las letras griegas en la literatura técnica y científica, parece que muchos autores y traductores carecen de conocimientos sobre su uso correcto. En este artículo se presentan una orientación sobre la ortotipografía griega, un periplo por algunas normas y sugerencias sobre el uso del griego en textos técnicos y académicos, e instrucciones sobre su reproducción utilizando el ordenador con el objetivo de mejorar la calidad de las búsquedas electrónicas y el intercambio de documentos e información en español e inglés. También se presentan observaciones sobre la transliteración, transcripción o traducción de nombres propios y datos bibliográficos.
Abstract
The presence in medical and scientific language of a large number of terms and expressions that contain Greek letters presents a problem for many authors, translators, physicians, and scientists. Despite the ubiquitous use of Greek letters in technical and scientific writing, it would appear that many authors and translators do not know how to use them correctly. This article serves as a typographical guide to Greek characters, gives an overview of rules and suggestions regarding their use in technical and academic texts, and shows how to reproduce them by using computers in order to improve the quality of electronic searches and the exchange of documents and information in Spanish and English. Observations regarding the transliteration, transcription, and translation of proper nouns, as well as bibliographic data, are also presented.
