Description
cult.
In this study we identify and describe the metaphors used in the field of diagnostic imaging to designate different radiographic signs seen in the images. For this purpose we compiled a million-word electronic corpus of medical papers written in English and Spanish and published in two prestigious journals, one from the United States and the other from Spain, in order to extract a list of metaphorical designations for these signs in both languages. The metaphors are classified thematically and described conceptually. The fundamental premise behind this research is to help better understand metaphorical uses in medical language in order to establish some useful guidelines for translating these metaphorical terms.
