Summary
The objective of this work was to evaluate four drying procedures for sheep feces and chicken chest obtaining their dry matter values. The experimental treatments were consisted by dry matter determination with
traditional method in laboratory oven with 105 ºC (Treatment 1)
with freeze drying device (Treatment 2)
with forced air circulation laboratory oven with 55 ºC (Treatment 3)
and in freeze drying device followed by
laboratory oven with 105 ºC. The experimental design was entirely randomized with four treatments and five replicates. The data had been submitted to the variance analysis and the averages were compared by test
Tukey (P<0.05). The averages of dry matter obtained by the traditional method and the method of freeze drying followed by the laboratory oven with 105 ºC were similar (P>0.05) for the two types of samples evaluated.
In the feces samples, the results of 1ª dry matter in laboratory oven with 55 ºC were similar (P>0.05) to the ones in the freeze drying device (41.45 e 44.51%, respectively). The dry matter of feces and the chicken chest
meat obtained with the freeze drying process must be considered as a first dry matter value, and to get the “original” dry matter, the samples must be submitted to the laboratory oven with 105ºC for 12 hours.
