(Russian), etc. In this paper, our aim is to expose on the arrival and integration of the words of Latin origin in Spanish and Slav languages. We observe that, in spite of diverse historical developments of the individual nations, which clearly influenced the respective languages, the dominant scientific and cultural role of the Roman Empire in the past has left visible marks in the vocabulary of Slav languages as well. An important part of our investigation constitutes the comparative analysis of “cultisms”, i.e. the words which come from the literary Latin without significant morphological and phonetic changes. On the ground of this analysis we make a conclusion that the total integration and frequent use of individual words result in semantic deviation in one or another target language and in the appearance of the phenomenon of so called “false friends”.
