Description
The recent excavations discovered a romano-gaulish theater edified on aflat groune. The cavea is divided into four cunei by three vomitories and borded by a circular gallery. At the hemicycle (diameter : 100 m) are added two lateral passages leading to the central area or orchestra ; the central building is small ( 7 m x 6 m) and therefore it must not be considered as a real scaena. Built at the very end of the Ist century A.D. or in the first years of the IInd, and abandoned in the IVth century A.D., the monument is a part of a rural sanctuary (or conciliabulumj including a spring and a classical temple, near the pre-roman oppidum of Neung-sur-Beuvron and at the boundaries between the Carnutes and Bituriges civitates.
