welcomes you at the
16 th INTERNATIONAL VICENZA COURSE ON CRITICAL CARE NEPHROLOGY
Vicenza – Italy, May 29 - June 1 st , 2007
This is a multidisciplinary course sponsored by:
The International Society of Nephrology (ISN)
The European Dialysis and Transplantation Association (EDTA)
The European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM)
The European Society for Artificial Organs (ESAO)
The International Federation of Kidney Foundation (NKF)
The Italian Society of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care (SIAARTI)
The Italian Society of Nephrology (SIN)
European Dialysis & Transplait Nurses Association/ European Renal Care Association (EDTNA/ERCA)
The first three International Vicenza Courses on Critical Care Nephrology were held in 1998, 2001 and 2004. We gathered participants from more than 50 dif-ferent countries. A series of lectures and panel discus-sions were delivered during the three days of each course. The proceedings were published in a special issue of Kidney International for the first case and in special books entitled “Blood Purification in Intensive Care “and” Sepsis, Kidney and Multiple Organ Dysfunction” for the second and third cases. A wide-spread consensus on the format of the course and the timely publication of the proceedings was recorded from the participants and a remarkably positive feed-back was collected from physicians, nurses and mem-bers of the industry of the field. For this reason we decided to continue to host this course every three years; sufficient time required in our opinion for a real advancement in technology and scientific knowledge and a sufficient accumulation of new data. Our task is to put together specialists from diff erent disciplines in a single scientific event with a multidisciplinary approach to the critically ill patient with acute renal fai-lure and multiple organ dysfunction. The scientific quality of the course and its multidisciplinary nature are guaranteed by the reputation of the faculty and the endorsement of several international scientific Societies. We really hope that a large number of dele-gates will join this important event which is becoming a classic appointment for the experts and the physi-cians who want to receive updated information in the field of Critical Care Nephrology.

The CCNN Group
The Critical Care Nephrology Nursing Group (CCNN Group) is a team consisting of nurses from St. Bortolo Hospital from different departments including Nephrology, Intensive Care and Cardiac Surgery. The team has experienced a strict collaboration for the implementation and the conduction of renal replacement therapies in critically ill patients. The mul-tidisciplinary experience allows them to provide a unique message of collaboration among different units (the so called “Vicenza Model”) which will be presented in the program of the course.
SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM
The scientific program has been designed to offer a comprehensive review of the most important issues related to the management and care of the critically ill patient suffering from acute renal failure and multiple organ dysfunction. The course is intended to be a valuable educational occasion for beginners and for the experts in the field matching personal experiences with presentations from leading experts, data from current literature with everyday clinical practice and finally new problems and requirements with the most advanced technological innovations. The industry of the field is in fact considered a partner in this project where a continuous osmosis between clinical require-ments and technological advances is mandatory. The scientific program includes a complete overview of the problems encountered in the daily clinical prac-tice of specialists in the fields of intensiv e care, nephrology, surgery, cardiology, gastroenterology and pneumology, seen from a multidisciplinary point of view. The problem of acute renal failure in the critical-ly ill patient and all therapeutic possibilities and inter-ventions will be discussed by worldwide specialists of the field. At the same time, multiple organ dysfunction and sepsis will be debated as part of the complex clin-ical picture of the cr itically ill patient. New therapeutic options will be discussed and evidence for current practice will be presented. The program is sponsored by several scientific societies and it has been designed under the auspices of the Acute Dialysis Quality Initiative (ADQI). All the presentations will be collected in a formal publication which will allow par-ticipants to better follow the presentations and to pre-pare possible questions and comments in advance. We wish a fruitful course to all participants and we hope to have covered systematically most of the material in the field of critical care nephrology.
