Introduction 1. The audit of EU funds in Denmark and the EU has developed significantly in recent years. Since 2005, Rigsrevisionen has issued an audit opinion on the Danish EU funds. Supreme audit institutions of other Member States have also played a greater role in the audit of EU funds, and also the cooperation between the supreme audit institutions and the European Court of Auditors (the Court) has undergone changes. In this memorandum, I shall provide the Public Accounts Committee with an overview of the most significant problems and trends characterising the management and audit of EU funds at the European and Danish level, respectively. Finally, I shall inform the Public Accounts Committee of the most important conclusions made by the Court in its Annual Report on 2007 and provide my comments on these conclusions. I have adopted a broad perspective in this memorandum to ensure that the members of the Public Accounts Committee can include the memorandum in their preparations for the visit to the United Kingdom in June 2009. 2.
