MARICOPA COUNTY, ARIZONA PRESIDENTIAL PREFERENCE ELECTION FEBRUARY 5, 2008 HAND COUNT/AUDIT REPORT Precinct Hand Count/ Audit Pursuant to A.R.S §16‐602(C), Maricopa County conducted the hand count/audit for the February 5, 2008 Presidential Preference Election. The statutory requirement is for 2% of the precincts/polling places used for the given election. A total of 8 of the 347 precincts/polling places were audited. The precincts/polling places were selected in a random drawing by Mark Manoil, Maricopa County Democratic Party Chair and Tom Husband, Maricopa County Republican Party Chair. The representatives from the parties met at 11:00pm on Tuesday, February 5, 2008 to conduct the drawing. There are only two offices to be selected from for this Election (Democratic Presidential Candidates and Republican Presidential Candidates). Through a toss of a coin, the office to be audited was selected. The “Democratic Presidential Candidate” office was selected. The Republican Party was then allowed to begin the selection of the 8 precincts/polling places by lot and selection alternated between the two Political Party Chairs, until all 8 precincts/polling places were selected. In addition, Maricopa County Elections Department chose to audit the Republican Presidential Candidate office from 2 of the already selected precincts/polling places that existed.
