For Immediate Release: For more information: November 14, 2007 Adam Joseph: (860) 509-6118 Cell: (860) 817-4165 - NEWS RELEASE - LARGEST AUDIT OF ELECTION RESULTS IN CONNECTICUT HISTORY VOTING RIGHTS ADVOCATES JOIN SECRETARY OF THE STATE TO RANDOMLY SELECT PRECINCTS FROM ACROSS THE STATE HARTFORD: Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz joined voting rights advocates from the League of Women Voters of Connecticut, TrueVoteCT, and CTVotersCount.Org, at a thnew conference at the State Capitol on Wednesday November 14 to randomly select voting precincts which will be part of the largest audit of election results in Connecticut history. As required by Public Act 07-194, An Act Concerning the Integrity and Security of the Voting Process, ten percent of the polling precincts used in the election are subject to an thaudit. All told, 695 polling precincts were used on November 6 , meaning that 70 precincts will have their election results audited. (There are recounts in 39 towns comprising 149 precincts. Those precincts are exempt from audit selection.) “These audits play a crucial role in helping guarantee the integrity and security of our elections,” said Secretary Bysiewicz. “For the first time since the 1930’s Connecticut voters went to the polls and cast their ballots with a new form of voting machinery.
