A Perfect Day in Porto



9.00am

Breakfast
Kick off the day with coffee, eggs and croissants at the lovely Mercador Café in Rua das Flores. Stroll along this appealing street with its grand mansions and enticing shops.


10.00am

Top of the tower
Visit the nearby Clérigos Church and Tower (for more information, click here ). Climb 225 steps up the tower for the best views of the city, then take a peek inside the beautiful Baroque church.


11.00am

A feast of azulejos
Drop down Rua dos Clérigos for the Praça da Liberdade, civic heart of the city. The broad Avenida dos Aliados stretches grandly up to the Town Hall. Beyond the Praça you’ll find São Bento railway station, its entrance hall bedecked with 20,000 azulejos (tiles) illustrating scenes of Portuguese history and traditions.


12.00pm

Sé to Ribeira
Walk down the main street for the Sé (Cathedral) and admire the sweeping city views from the esplanade. Take a brief look at the cathedral and cloisters before heading down the steps to the right of the Episcopal Palace. A stairway leads all the way to the Ribeira but if you run out of
