The journey to making this book possible was not easy and I could not have done it without help. I would, therefore, like to thank my parents, Mr Festus and Esther Mukoya, for being there from beginning to the end, making sure I got all that I needed when it came to the making of this book. I would also like to express my gratitude to the Austin Macauley team for putting this book together. It has taken a lot of hard work, and if I may add, a lot of putting up with me. I have to say; it would not have been as beautiful as it is without you people. Last but not the least, I would like to thank my friends who were there to read, smile or frown at my story as I wrote chapter after chapter. It was motivating.
What I am trying to say here is, thank you all for making the publishing of this book possible.
Prologue
Years will come and years will go but the independence of a nation is never permanent if it is not severely fought for. The urge for colonialism and dictatorship is always in the blood of many leaders but there will always be one who knows how to fight for justice and serve the nation passionately.
Love will always be there in everyone’s life but there will always be a story similar to that of Samson and Delilah. Sometimes, just like Delilah, the woman betrays her man because of the influence of her people and vice versa.
All these are common in our daily lives and at different places, and the nations of Nyeka and Ndagua are no exception. Time has come that arms need to be used, and intelligence needs to be high for bloodshed to be avoided. It’s time to fight, time for secrets to be unfolded, time to forgive and time to make changes for the betterment of each nation. It is time for decision making—live stagnated by the past or embrace a new and better future. Time has come when people must learn that there is more to a story than what meets the eye and that there is always a mastermind behind all crimes committed.
It is time to take care of the nation and time to embrace romantic lives. I know, don’t ask but trust me, it’s real—even in time of war, love and romance can be born. Oh, the extraordinary but not impossible times in history.
Chapter One
The atmosphere in the soldiers’ compound spells trouble. Silence has replaced their usual cheerful noises, and the sounds of the rehearsal equipment could not be heard that morning. Whatever was happening must have been very devastating to command such frustrating silence from the ever-noisy warriors.
“Festus, wait up man,” Alex called to his roommate. “Are you heading to the parade hall?”
Turning to look at his friend who was now catching up with him, Festus replied, “Yes bro, I am headed to the parade hall. Our beautiful commander has just called for an emergency meeting.”
The two old boys looked at each other and laughed, and then, hitting Alex playfully on his shoulder, Festus says, “Dude, we are something else. The issue at hand is very critical and here we are cracking jokes.”
Alex smiles at him and says, “Let us just say we are two hopeful men.” Festus nods and returns the bright smile before the two of them join the others in their slow jog to the parade hall.

“Good morning, Nyeka warriors.”
“Good morning, madam,” the soldiers replied in unison as each one of them shifted to a position that allowed them to have a good view of their sexy and determined commander, Vivienne Katiba, who was fully dressed in her army gear, ready for action.
“As we have all seen, today is another bright new day and, for us soldiers, it means a new challenge presents itself before us,” she paused and then paced from one end to the other before proceeding with her speech.
“For the first time in a whole decade, our country is under siege… Maybe I should add ‘again’, as we have read in our history, that this is the second time our country is under siege.”
On mentioning that point, the soldiers could be seen fidgeting and whispers of phrases like ‘what the hell…’, ‘damn it…’, ‘but why…’ could be heard all the way to the front where the commander stood.
Vivienne looked at each of her soldiers and said, “The Ndagua Republic has planned on expanding their territory into ours and that most likely includes merging the countries into one…” Before she could proceed, a hand shot up and a tall chocolate-colored man with a model’s face stood up. She nodded her permit for him to speak.
“Sorry to interrupt but that means getting our country by force…”
“…And also changing our beloved country’s constitution,” Viola, the tall lady with piercing eyes, completed his sentence for him, if that is what he was even going to say. I don’t know but maybe it was very close to what the handsome Festus could have said because he turned to her with a smile and a bonus of his famous wink of agreement.
Everyone in the hall, including their commander, nodded in agreement before Commander Vivienne Katiba gracefully walked to their huge platform and in her well-known authoritative voice said, “That is why, for the first time in decades, we—the Nyeka Army—are going to join forces with the Nyeka Navy and the Nyeka One Air Force, not forgetting the special group, Nyeka Intelligence Organization—commonly referred to as N.I.O.—to protect our country as a whole—its government, its constitution and the sovereignty of our citizens. I am saying ‘for the first time’ because, as we all know, these different groups defended this country separately during the last coup. We think that, perhaps, mixing of the different groups will improve the creativity during defence, something that had not been thought about the last time.”
She paused, walked from one end to the other while looking at her soldiers, then, narrowing her eyes, she spoke with finality, “And no country, no matter how powerful it is, will be allowed to take over our nation because, together as a team, we are going to fight to protect our country.”
The other soldiers nodded and shouted their approval, and, before she walked out, she folded her right hand into a fist and raised it up as the other soldiers followed suit as Alex.
One of the seniors shouted, “In unity, we shall fight…”
The others responded lively, “…And in unity, we shall protect.”
Vivienne’s face lit up with a smile of satisfaction and, therefore, she uttered words of dismissal after an agreement to meet after their morning hours’ rehearsals. I must say, there is no greater joy than that of a commander leading vibrant, competitive, creative, loyal, honest, and cooperative soldiers.
Chapter Two
Five hours later, many rrrrrrings could be heard from the soldiers’ watches which meant that it was time for the meeting. They were familiar with meetings like the one they were going to attend in a couple of minutes, for they have been attending them for the past year. Well, maybe the only difference could be that, this time, the situation was bad, in fact, worse than they have ever had in Nyeka for several years.
“Come on people, let’s scoot to the briefing room. Five minutes to the start of the briefing, and I am sure that no one wants to arrive ten minutes late.”
“Hey, Oscar!” a female voice shouted.
“What’s up, Naomi?”
“You don’t have to shout the obvious to all of us, pal, or are you forgetting that we all have watches with pre-set alarms that perfectly know their jobs?”
Oscar snorted before saying, “How would I be so sure that people like you will not have their ‘pre-set watches’ set thirty minutes behind and will, again, come in ten minutes late with an excuse of ‘sorry, I think my watch went bad’.” Oscar chuckled then added, “And you are here, busy telling me about having watches that perfectly know their duty.”
Naomi, who had now caught up with Oscar, gave him a friendly punch on his shoulder and told him to shut up. They laughed at the memories of that rare memorable day when Naomi had arrived at the briefing’s end because her watch had gone bad, and she didn’t know.
“Alright, Oscar, you win now but not later. Come on, let’s get going or, this time, it will not be Naomi only getting late but Naomi and Oscar as partners.”
Oscar nodded in agreement but did not stop laughing as the two broke into a jog, as they joined the others in their short journey to the briefing room.

Vivienne sat at the corner of the briefing room as the last bunch of her soldiers streamed in for b
