Insights from Chapter 1
#1
When I was a teenager, I always wanted to go out and do something. I was sick of staying at home. Now I prefer to stay at home. I wear sweats as a uniform in my home, and no one is there to judge me.
#2
The reason I wrote this book is to help you avoid the death of your calling. Satan is slow cooking the death of your calling, and you don’t want to be a part of it.
#3
Faith is the basis of going to heaven. It is not about what you can do, but about what you believe God did and will do.
#4
The birthright was a huge deal four thousand years ago. It belonged to the firstborn male, and it gave him three things: access to land, money, and women. Esau wanted all three, so he sold his birthright to Jacob.
#5
The birthright was a really big deal in Abraham’s family. It caused the firstborn to be seen in the will as though he were two people. It was Esau’s, and he wasn’t willing to give it up for a bowl of stew.
#6
The choice is yours: Would you like this meal right now, or would you like to see God do great things through your life down the road. Esau chose the stew. He traded his calling for a can of Campbell’s. He gave up his inheritance for something that made him feel good for an evening.
#7
The desire for sex can lead you to look at porn or have an affair that will destroy your home, make your kids hate you, and discredit your witness. The desire to succeed in business can lead you to cut corners and make unethical decisions, giving people a bad impression of Christians.
#8
The sharks will always try to undervalue the company and get it for a bargain. The devil will try to rip you off by offering you less than you’re worth. If you don’t understand your true worth, you will settle.
#9
The devil will try to make you feel insecure about your calling.
